Championship leader Ryan Lewis charged to a spirited fifth place finish from 18th on the grid, in the sixth round of the Visma Software Formula Palmer Audi Championship at the famous Monza Grand Prix circuit in Italy today. The 19 year-old, who`s rare error in yesterday's qualifying saw him crash heavily at Lesmo 2, dropped him down to the ninth row for the race, but buoyed by his victory in yesterday's race the youngster rocketed off the line, overtaking ten cars on his first lap.
“I'm relatively happy with the result,” said Ryan at the end of the 10-lap race. “I lost a place on the last corner of the last lap and used up too much of the allowed boost on the opening lap, which probably cost me a podium position. I used three but unfortunately one didn't pay off and if I'd saved it for later it could have made a big difference. It would have been nice to have another podium finish with Niki (Faulkner) my team-mate for the weekend. The championship lead is still mine and that's a good position to be in as we hit the half-way point.
The Royston teenager went into today's race with a 20-point advantage over his main series rival Adam Smith, but consistent performances from Ryan Hooker together with two poor results from Smith, move Hooker into second with Smith dropping to third.
Ryan's team-mate Niki Faulkner went on to record his first ever overall race victory head of Stephen Young and Sam Edwards, with Hooker just managing to hold off Ryan at the flag.
