Ryan Lewis has certainly not been resting on his laurels - the 2004 Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Scholarship Champion and BRDC Rising Star has been undergoing an intensive testing programme in preparation for a bid for next year's British F3 crown. Twenty year-old Lewis won 17 rounds from 24, with 17 fastest laps and 15 pole positions to win the title with five rounds still in hand and since the season ended at Brands Hatch last month has conducted eight days of testing in a T-Sport run Championship Dallara F304 and both Ryan and the team are delighted with how things have gone so far.
“I'm really pleased with how things have gone in recent testing,” said Ryan. “It's different again to the scholarship car but I think I've really leant a lot and am getting to grips with the car well. Early on we had some bad weather so didn't get quite as much out of it as I would have liked but I can see myself how I've improved in the last few.”
T-Sport engineer Alan Woodhead agreed: “We had a very successful season with Ryan in the Scholarship Class but moving up into a Championship class is quite different. At the start of the testing programme Ryan settled in well and we were happy with his performance despite the fact that the weather hampered our chances of doing much running. Over the last three tests though there's been a marked improvement in his own performance and if continues to improves things look very positive for next year.”
The Royston driver has won back-to-back titles after clinching last year's Visma Software Formula Palmer Audi Championship and is expected to embark on a full season in British Formula 3 next year in the championship class.
