Ryan Lewis set a storming pace in testing for rounds 15 and 16 of the Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Scholarship at Oulton Park today comfortably topping the class and beating pre-season favourites Nelson Piquet jnr and Adam Carroll in the split session. The 20 year-old runaway leader from Royston, Herts, heads to the Cheshire track with a massive 94-point lead over Stephen Jelley following 11 victories so far and aims to take another double win on Sunday to further consolidate his advantage.
The reigning FPA Champion also aims to prove his worth by mixing it with the championship cars and today's stunning performance in wet conditions, in which he posted the 12th fastest time overall, shows his capabilities. Changeable weather conditions throughout today's session effectively split the timing into two and although he beat several championship cars in both sessions knows that it's tomorrow's qualifying that really matters. “It's great to be ahead of championship cars of course but tomorrow is when it really counts. The priority will be going for another double, but my second aim for the weekend will be to get as high up the overall order as possible. I think I've proved I can get up there and I'm really happy with the set-up on the car; I'll just have to get straight on it tomorrow come qualifying.”
