Lewis dominates with Snetterton F3 hat-trick

Ryan Lewis totally dominated the Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Scholarship outings at Snetterton today; taking victory in rounds 9 and 10 to add to his win in yesterday's rescheduled round 4. With fastest lap in all three races his maximum point's tally of 63 takes his total to 180, 46 clear of Barton Mawer after 10 rounds.

Starting the first race from second place, Ryan made a good start and capitalised on that to take an immediate lead into Riches. Lap after lap he pulled away from pole-sitter Jelley and kept Marcus Marshall in a championship car behind him until he wisely waved him through. Ryan went on to cross the line 4.5 seconds ahead.

“It was pretty much over at the start to be honest,” said Ryan. “There was a lot of confusion at the start and when I got to the first corner it was a bit hectic going in there. Stephen (Jelley) was on the outside and I was on the inside he got held up a bit and I just dived up the inside of some of the championship cars and managed to get a break on him. From then on he was struggling to make the gap back up.”

“I managed to keep ahead of Marshall in a championship car but then I missed a gear at Sear and he closed right up. There's no point in making him chase me all the way down the straight so I waved him past into the Esses. I think a top ten finish is now a possibility but the priority is to keep out of the championship guys way and aim for as many wins as possible.”

Race two also had Ryan start from second place and again he took the lead into Riches for the first time, although Jelley retook the position there on lap 2. The next lap a determined Lewis was after win number 3 and with a daring move at Coram retook the lead which he held to the flag, ahead of a battling Jelley and Barton Mawer, the latter finally get the place on the last lap.

“I got a very good start and managed to get by Stephen into the first corner. The first couple of laps were great, the best race I've had all year but I just managed to get the better of him. Coming out of Russell he pulled to the left hand side and went round the outside of me at Riches. I tried to give him plenty of room obviously as I didn't want to risk going off and I had a look at getting by down the straight and we were side-by-side the whole way. The next lap I ended up going round the outside at the Esses, he got me back at the Bombhole and because he was on the inside he had to lift a bit and had a bit of a moment, I went down a gear and got past him at Coram. After that I just got my head down and tried to get a bit of space.”
