When you're not driving, is it helpful to still be at the track?
Yes, it's good to have a look outside at what else is going on around you. Going out onto the track when the others are out testing is a great help even when I'm not out, watching other drivers and their different techniques, what works and what doesn't has been really helpful.
Do you think your team-mate Karun's (Chandhok) experience with the team will help you?
I only met him a few weeks ago so I don't really know Karun that well but he seems like a really nice guy and yes I think he will be able to help me a lot. Of course I'm still getting to know the team as well and I think I get on well, and well, I hope they think so too! I think we'll work well together, they're very easy to talk to and they've been a great help so far.
I understand you're looking to move house?
Yes, I'm looking at moving up to Northampton. When I'm not racing and testing or being with the team, I'll be working as much as possible as an instructor at PalmerSport in Bedford. It will be good for me to be close to the team base in Brackley, I've been spending a lot of time there and I think it's really important to build up the relationship we have as I know how close we'll be working together this season.
What's the main area you feel you need to work on?
What all the guys have said is that it's just a matter of getting into the whole programme because previously I haven't really had this situation of getting in the car and actually having to work with an engineer, previously in FPA you just get in the car and drive it. They've said my feedback is fine and I can do that but rather than if there's a problem with the car just trying to drive round it, I need to come in, talk to the engineers, sort the problem out and then go out again. I used to try and drive round the problem, and that's probably what contributed to the accident at Brands, I was trying to drive round the little problem I was having. That's just something I've got to learn.
How different is the F3 car to the FPA?
I've got used to it now, when I first got into an F3 car it was a very, very different experience but it doesn't feel that different now. I've done enough laps in the car now to get used to it and now I can just get in and drive it. There's just a few little things to sort out, I'm still learning and I've still got a way to go but it's not looking too bad.
Are there any tracks you're really looking forward to or absolutely dreading?
Because I haven't really done any national championship there are a few tracks I haven't been to at all. I haven't been to Thruxton, ever! I haven't even been there to watch, so I need to try and get a few laps in there before the race. Silverstone Grand Prix circuit I'm really looking forward to but again I've never been on it. And Rockingham, that would be a good event.
You've now driven in all weather conditions, any preference?
Yes it was very wet at Oulton Park a few weeks ago, and then it started drying out in the afternoon. And then last week I had my first full dry tests at Oulton and Silverstone. It makes things a lot easier, and of course I'd be happier if it was dry all season, but that doesn't happen like that and of course it's important to be able to drive quickly and well in all conditions.
What's your objective for the opening race?
I want to be out on top straight away, I'm not sure who else is going to be entered into the championship but obviously I want to go out there and dominate straight from the start so I want to be on pole for both the races and win them both.
