Days after announcing his plans to compete in the 2004 British Formula 3 Scholarship with T-Sport, FPA Champion Ryan Lewis embarked on an intensive testing programme with the Brackley-based team with a full day at Oulton Park today. The 19 year-old from Royston, was happy with the progress made and quickly settled down to some respectable times in the dry morning session before the conditions deteriorated in the afternoon.
“Things went well,” said Ryan. “I feel that I learnt a lot, particularly in technique, and I feel very comfortable in the car. The morning session was particularly good and I was building up speed and looking forward to going even quicker in the afternoon but the conditions changed. It's given us the chance to work on some wet set-up though so certainly not a wasted afternoon. I think I ended up about 4/10ths off Steven's best time here so I'm quite happy with that.”
T-Sport's Russell Eacott was also pleased with the day's running and felt it was a productive day all round. “It was a good day, wet in the afternoon and dry in the morning but we were able to compare some data from Steven (Kane) which was favourable. Ryan's getting better all the time and although we only had about an hour and a half of good running in the dry he did a good job. He went well in the wet testing too and it will be good to see now how things go at Brands Hatch next week.”
With the Championship Class testing ban over on Monday (16th) Ryan will resume his testing programme with a day at the Kent track next Tuesday, where most of the championship contenders are likely to be present, before heading to Silverstone on Friday.
