Ryan Lewis completed another successful F3 test at Oulton Park last week, driving a T-Sport scholarship car around the Oulton Park Island circuit. The 19 year-old FPA Champion, who recently won the Gorsline HPI Scholarship, adapted quickly to the new car, despite bad weather cutting short the sessions, and wound up just a second off Nelson Piquet jnr.
“It was a good couple of days,” said Ryan. “It was my first time on the Island circuit so I had to get used to that and the first time in a scholarship car, which is also slightly different from the others I've driven. I knew I was losing time at Cascades on the first day, but after a good debrief in the evening I was able to put that right for the second day.”
”We had some problems with foggy weather on Tuesday, which meant we missed half the day but after that I was able to build up the speed and post some reasonably good times. The team were really good to work with too and I was very happy with their approach to things.”
Team boss Russell Eacott was also pleased with the youngsters' performance and very impressed with his “raw talent and undoubted speed”. “I was very impressed with him, particularly when you consider what he's done in his short career. He has a lot of potential and we were all very impressed with the way he adjusted to things after the first day. He really took it all on board and was able to improve steadily throughout the two days. His high speed driving was quite remarkable and through the fast corners was really amazing.”
“I'm sure he'll be a front-runner and race winner next year and has a good chance to win the Scholarship class. He understands there's a lot of hard work involved and some work is required on the finesse that's needed to drive these cars but he's certainly got a future and we'd be happy to run him next season.”
Brackley-based T-Sport, the junior team to Carlin Motorsport, enjoyed considerable success in the Scholarship class this year, narrowly missing out on the title with 2001 McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Steven Kane and also taking third with Formula Asia Champion Karun Chandhok.
