Formula Palmer Audi Champion Ryan Lewis has been nominated for the Human Performance Institute Scholarship presented by the Gorsline Company. The winner will undergo a two-day Driver Performance Enhancement Programme designed to improve a racing drivers functional and competitive performance through mental, physical and lifestyle evaluation and development.
The Gorsline Company annually presents the Scholarship to a young aspiring driver of any nationality who consistently displays exceptional talent and a professional respect for motorsport. John Gorsline has awarded the scholarship to the HPI Driver Enhancement Programme for the past nine years as part of his dedication to promoting and enhancing the career path of future champions.
The award is presented at the American Auto Race Writers and Broadcasters Association at their awards banquet in California in January. Past recipients of the award include Bryan Herta, Butch Leitzinger, Buddy Rice, Jerry Nadeau and Danica Patrick.
The Human Performance Institute was founded in 1983 and is internationally renowned for its effective role in the enhancement of driver performance by applying sport science principles and technology. Five major areas are assessed: physical readiness, mental skills, dynamic visual skills, nutritional status and medical status.
Over the past twenty years, many other drivers have been evaluated by HPI and undertaken the relevant training programmes including Ayrton Senna, Emerson Fittipaldi, Nigel Mansell, Helio Castroneves and Jeff Gordon.
