FPA Champion Ryan Lewis was disappointed not to finish the first Formula Renault race of the weekend at Oulton Park today, after damaged rear pushrods sustained in a practice accident, forced retirement. He remains philosophical though of getting a good result when the series resumes with Round 17 at the Cheshire track tomorrow.
The 19 year-old, from Royston, Hertfordshire, who clinched the FPA title with a dominant victory in the final round last weekend, crashed at Druids in this morning's damp practice session and was forced to start from the back of the grid. As the race progressed, it became apparent that the damage was more severe than previously thought, forcing Ryan into the pits and instant retirement.
“It was tough in the race,” said Ryan. “It got to the point where the car just didn't want to turn right and it made more sense to retire than try and continue. But that's motor racing, sometimes things go well, other times they don't, you have to be philosophical about it, put it behind you, and move on. Tomorrow's another day, with another race so hopefully we'll be able to get a good result then. Today was the first time I'd driven the FRenault in the wet before and that takes a bit of getting used to as well, but it's not a problem."
The series resumes tomorrow with Round 17 scheduled to start at 14.05.
