Ryan Lewis romped to his first victory of the season in an action-packed fifth round of the Visma Software Formula Palmer Audi Championship at the historic Monza circuit in Italy today. The 19 year-old, starting from the front row, led into the first corner and was never headed to record his maiden win of the year. The Royston teenager who so nearly won on the last four occasions, went on to cross the line 3 seconds ahead of Ryan Hooker and Niki Faulkner, his team-mate for the weekend, who brought the number 2 Team Lewis car home just 3/10ths of a second adrift in third.
More importantly his main series rival Adam Smith could only manage fourth to further extend Ryan’s advantage at the top of the points standings to 20 points.
“I’m absolutely delighted,†said Ryan at the end of the 10-lap race. “I made a great start and was alongside Ryan (Hooker) off the line and managed to get him before we’d entered the first corner and that was pretty much the race for me. I wasn’t going as quick as I know I could have done or perhaps should have done, but to be honest I was a bit worried about throwing it off the track.â€
