Flyin' Ryan at Snetterton

Ryan and Ben made history on Sunday as they become the first brothers to take a first/second place double in a Formula Palmer Audi race.

The day's racing started well with Ryan quickest in the morning's free practice session. This was no fluke as he carried the pace through to official qualifying. Indeed there were impressive performances from both lads in their Building Environmental Services entered cars in qualifying for the first race. Ryan was fourth with Ben not far behind in fifth.

The race provided some of the usual Palmer Audi dramas as early as the second lap - Ben had the better start and was heading Ryan - the pair running 4th and 5th. Championship regular Howard Spooner picked a fine moment to spin at the chicane and block the track. With a pack of fast cars right behind the hapless Spooner there was sure to be mayhem. Ryan ran into the back of Ben, damaging Ben's rear wing but also bending Ryan's offside front wheel. Ben soldiered on for two more laps then retired to join Ryan on the sidelines.

In race two Ryan's qualifying performance was superb, taking pole position by two tenths of a second. Spooner got the better but Ryan's pole position and his rival's antics from the first race must have added to his confidence. Ryan blasted past Spooner to lead but the race dramas were not over yet. On lap 17 Chris Hyman's car failed and safety car was brought out for two laps. Ryan kept cool at the restart and this time Spooner was unable to wrest the lead from him as the pack headed down to Riches for the restart. Ben was also in superb form and had moved up from seventh at the original start into fifth when the safety car was deployed. He too made a superb start when the race got underway again and leapt from fifth to second before the first corner to make it a one-two for the brothers. Ryan also recorded the fastest lap of the race.

Overjoyed at his first win in Palmer Audi, Ryan demonstrated more superb car control by performing some celebratory donuts in front of the fans on the home straight and whilst this entertained those present the race officials were not amused. The stewards endorsed Ryan's licence and fined him
