Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Scholarship leader Ryan Lewis completed around 110 laps of the Snetterton track last week in preparation for this weekend's triple header at the Norfolk track (June 5/6). The official test day provided Ryan with around 200 miles of testing in preparation for three races, in which he wound up easily the fastest of the Scholarship runners.
“It was a pretty good test, although Friday's will be a better indication of where we're at because everybody will be timed,” said Ryan. “The biggest problem was people kept throwing it off all over the place. But it was a useful day and I think we learnt a lot from it. The (T-Sport) team were timing me and the others and things looked to be good and although we weren't really going for times, changes to set-up certainly made the car easier to drive, so I'm heading into the weekend confident and feeling positive.”
T-Sport Engineer Alan Woodhead declared it Ryan's most productive test. “He didn't put a foot wrong and for Ryan it was probably one of his best ever test days. We felt he had a really good day and can head into the meeting feeling very positive. Snetterton is a very low grip circuit and one where the wind direction can play a major factor in dictating lap times. Many drivers end up feeling frustrated because they feel their lap times aren't necessarily their quickest around the track but Wednesday's test enabled Ryan to find a set-up that allowed him an easier drive. And although official times weren't recorded we're confident that he was easily half a second quicker than Stephen Jelley.”
Although traditionally the British F3 events are double headers, next weekends meeting will include the washed-out Silverstone round four as part of the British F3/GT Championship weekend.
In addition to the two planned British F3 Championship races for Sunday, the Silverstone race will be run on the Saturday evening with the grid the same as it would have been for Silverstone. This will see Ryan start second quickest alongside Scholarship pole sitter Stephen Jelley.
