Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Scholarship leader Ryan Lewis topped the testing times at Knockhill today in preparation for the sixth and seventh rounds of the 24-round series. The 20 year-old from Royston, Hertfordshire has not raced at the Knockhill circuit, near Edinburgh since he raced in the BRSCC T-Cars Championship in 2001 but went into the session confident of maintaining his early season pace.
At the end of the day's three sessions the reigning Formula Palmer Audi Champion was seven tenths ahead of his nearest rival, Barton Mawer and just two tenths off Nelsinho Piquet in a Championship class car. “The day went really well,†said Ryan. “I'm very happy with the set-up here, the test at Anglesey really helped as the circuits are very similar. Also my experience in FPA has also helped, as like the FPA car the F3 is set up fully soft, softer than it would be in a wet session even.â€
“The track too is fairly similar to how it was when I last raced here, just a few tweaks here and there, like the chicane which has been opened up a bit, so I feel comfortable with the circuit and the car. It goes without saying that I want to take two poles and two race wins this weekend but my main aim is to really get amongst the championship cars and go for a good overall finish.â€
